APRIL

APRIL 11 you know I had some really good stuff to write about but I just realized something... my website is a year old. wow. time flies when you are cashing unemployment checks. feels weird. anyway, onto news... Well, ladies and gentlemen, it's over... Melanism has finally got himself a job.... woo hoo That was sarcastic. Don't get me wrong. I am more than thrilled to be employed again but I am basically making the same pay I was making when I got laid off from Su(c)kin Law Group and that wasn't one of my goals when I first got laid off and saw this as an opportunity to make more money than I was before and move out and shit but now it's like starting over. Even worse, I will be doing more work than before. I thought about turning it down and holding out for more but then I remembered that my benefits would be running out soon and this has been long enough to go without a job. Maybe something great will come of this...or maybe I'll have a new job to complain about. Nah. No more complaining. Just hard working til I get a big fat raise. Yeah right...the drama continues I am definitely going to miss some things about being unemployed like hanging out with my girlfriend whenever we wanted to hang out and sleeping late and going to the gym in the morning instead of at night when the sweaty after work folks are there (opps..that'll be me soon) and just being able to do this whenever I want to...now I'm gonna be sneaking around typing lil updates into my palm pilot while I'm supposed to be doing something else. At least, I'll have some real money...and be able to go to California for Memorial Day Weekend for the Okayplayer Reunion. Does anyone know where I could get some good airfare to LA? -- Okay, so Tuesday evening around 6 PM, I'm at the deli getting some food before I meet my girl at her job. Then she calls me. Prince is having aftershow in the city at Midnight. They just mentioned on the radio. What?!? So I get to her job and we debate whether to go. C'mon it's Prince. She hasn't seen Prince perform since she was nine and me...NEVER. I love Prince. Prince was the first music artist I ever really knew when I was a kid (thanks to my brother's obsession with him, it later became mine)...got his albums, saw his videos, saw tapes of his performance but never saw him perform live. So we had to go. As F2 always says Everything is in divine right order If we went and we didn't see him we wouldn't be too bummed. It was all about the chance. So as we walked up there, we told ourselves if there were more than 50-100 people, we would just go home. We walked there expecting to see a big line. You know how many people were there when we got there. 1 Apparently the only people who knew where people who went to the concert and anyone who was listening to WPLJ. Cool, we're gonna see Prince. So from 10:30 til about 12:30, we were waiting on line. Then they finally let us into to this club called The World (which is WWF NY when the Rock isn't there). And we were five rows of people from the stage. The celeb factor was moderate: Alicia Keys, Musiq Soulchild, Chris Rock, Rosario Dawson, ?uestlove from The Roots, Kelis, Jeffery Wright, Mos Def, George Clinton and more I'm sure I didn't care about. So at 2 AM he finally hits the stage and the wait was worth it... Just to see him play four guitars... Just to see him perform "Joy in Repetition" and :The Ballad of Dorthey Parker"... Just to see Alicia Keys get lackluster crowd response when she got on stage and sang "How Come you Don't Call Anymore?" with Prince on keys.... Just to see Rosario Dawson up close (just kidding...she's looks like girls I've known in my life)... He performed til 4 am. We got home at 5 am. I wish I had worn sneakers to be standing for all that time... One of my life goals have been completed. Now Stevie Wonder need to go bankrupt so he can be forced to tour.
